As we entered the ship channel we were greeted by the sun breaking through and had a quick motor sail down to the jetties....
As we headed west down the coast we had wonderful 3 ft. seas and light winds but we hit a fog bank as we entered the gulf....but it was not too bad...
We had a great motor sail all day down to Freeport. We got to the Freeport Jetties well ahead of schedule and while others enjoyed a great sail (Winds picked up and it was just perfect) We had to attend to a Lazy Jack issue but it gave us time to get it re-strung and were ready to lower our sails and head into the jetties without any problem. Thankfully we did that because the minute we entered the jetties a heavy fog bank hit and there was no visibility on either bank..., except for shadowy figures..... we crawled through and learned to trust our radar... Once we crossed the inter-coastal the fog lifted and we were good to go all the way in from there.
It was cool going through the guillotine ... seeing our mast slide under it... looked tight but of course we actually had plenty of room.
We got into our slip easily and got settled for the night.
After getting settled we headed over to On The River for Dinner and then hit sack... it had been a long day and we were pooped.
Waltzing Matilda (Steve Lee) had an engine issue and had to limp in and actually had to leave his boat for repairs... hooking a ride for himself and his crew back to Houston on Goode Ketch.
Sunday morning met us with beautiful sunrise and great sailing weather. What a sight it was seeing all the boats pour out of the harbor.....
We made our way back out into the Gulf without any problems, hoisted our sails, cut the engines and had the most wonderful sail back for about 4 hours or so.... We then hit the engines so we could make better time and made it home just before dark with enough time to clean the boat and head for home....
Our first trip off-shore was WONDERFUL!
