We leave Houma and head toward Lafitte. As we went through the wiggles on the east side of Houma we see an offshore crew boat.... with a burn mark on top of the satellite dome. That had to be the boat that hit the bridge!
You can see the top of the dome has a burned spot.
We never know where to stay between Houma and New Orleans. We had the opportunity to tie up to a barge the last time we came through but had no real plan for what to do this trip. We had several options. But none of them very good. We just knew that we had to find a safe place to stay over night since it is very dangerous to travel the ICWW after dark. We could try to anchor out in Lake Salvador, go down the Barataria Waterway about 7 miles and tie up to a dock... with no water or electricity for $40/night (NOT).... or take our chances at Boom Town.
Well... Boomtown it was! We tied up just outside the Casino. What a terrible spot. We had to use tent stakes in the ground to tie off to. As you can see we have about 8 lines tied to the stakes, and along the water line on re-barb that is sticking out of the ground! We used lots of fenders and were fortunate that it was a calm night!!!
.
Our group all tied up along the bank
Our lines tied down with tent stakes and those stakes that screw into the ground for dog tie-ups.
This is what our boat was up against rebar and concrete chunks!
We even tied up to the rebar where we could. I'm not sure the bumpers would have done a lot of good if it was rough weather.
